Full Piece
Growing up, I measured routes by songs. A road could be three songs long; that was its distance to me.

My first understanding of Istanbul came through Bakırköy — the district where I was born and grew up. It was where I first registered how the city, its spaces, and the people within them affect one another.
Bakırköy, 88 follows that way of reading a place. It is not based on a fixed map, but on experience, observation, memory, and the influence of pre-modern maps — where measurement sits next to guesswork, stories, and perception.

I began working on the piece in early 2024 as a personal work made to exist beyond small screens. It became the first completed piece in a larger group of works based on places that mark different periods of my life.
